Calgary International Blues Festival lineup announced
BluesWire just got this via the wonderful world of Web 2.0 — it was sent to one of the groups our sister organization, Chicago Blues Tour belongs to on Facebook. It’s an eclectic schedule with a heavy sampling of blues-rock, but also includes veteran Chicago performer Roy Hytower, who made his name portraying Muddy Waters on stage here some years ago. Also our MySpace friends Blue Voodoo, a very tight R&B outfit based out of Vancouver.

W-Cinema: The Blues Brothers (1980)
A review of “The Blues Brothers”, now out in a commemorative DVD edition, noting that it’s as much a tribute to Chicago as a musical, as much an action movie as a comedy. I don’t know, I just thought it was funny.

BLUES TOWN (The City Of Blues): Lonnie Johnson
A great biography of the “other” Johnson, Lonnie, from Blues Town. While the boxed set reviewed emphasizes Johnson’s guitar talent, he was also quite a supple vocalist and had arguably the steadiest long-term career of any of the pre-war bluesmen.

Chicago 1946 – 48 | Magnum in Motion
A compelling photo essay with audio commentary portraying Chicago during the years 1946-48, with a blues soundtrack, and photos from Bronzeville taken by Wayne Miller.
